Customer Review: LOVE!!!
I love this kitchen aid stand mixer! It is GREAT!!! The only bad thing about it is when I ordered it, it was shipped in the original box. When I got home from shopping one afternoon, it was sitting by my front gate. Anyone could have seen what it was and grabbed it! Other than that I LOVE IT!!!!
Customer Review: Don't know what I ever did without it
This is the best appliance to have in your kitchen. Always wanted one but thought it was too cost prohibitive, until I found it on Amazon. No other Stand Mixer can compare. It can do everything but read your recipe. Did not take me long to get used to and now I feel I cannot get along with it. Everything from Pound Cake to Sausage balls is now made with this mixer. No more aching neck and hands from trying to stir heavy cookie dough, breads or the sausage balls. This Stand Mixer makes it all a cinch. I used it heavily through the holidays. It saved so much time and stopped the aching muscles that I cooked and baked even more than usual. No kitchen is complete without one!!!!! It is also an attractive kitchen addition. I also ordered the cover for it and of course I use it, but it is also a shame to cover it up. You will need to find a place to put it and leave it. It is heavy. Looks and feels like how things used to be made to last.

KitchenAid K45SS Classic 250-Watt 4-1/2-Quart Stand Mixer, White

KitchenAid’s stand mixer is a substantial piece of equipment: 250 watts of mixing power make child's play of creaming butter, kneading dough, and whipping cream. The kid in you will appreciate how quick and easy it is to mix up a batch of cookie dough; the 4-1/2-quart bowl can hold up to 8 cups of flour, which translates into as many as 192 sweet treats.

This model comes with three attachments: a flat beater for making batter, meat loaf, and all textures in-between; a wire whip for egg whites, mayonnaise, and more air-infused creations; and a hook for mixing and kneading yeast doughs. All three are solid in construction and easily secured to the beater shaft with a simple twist; untwisting them is a bit trickier because the attachment stems are short and can be hard to grasp, especially if they get the least bit greasy. The bowl itself locks tight to the base.

Standing 14 inches high, jutting out a foot, and weighing more than a grown woman's bowling ball, this stand mixer isn't the sort of appliance you'll wipe down and put away. Better to find a square foot of free counter space for easy access; besides, this machine is as pretty as it is rugged–you'll want to show it off.

To complete the package, KitchenAid includes a spiral-bound guide with instructions, mixing tips, and 67 recipes, from crispy waffles to a caramel walnut banana torte. –Betsy Danheim

The Complete Pepin: Techniques and Recipes

It doesn't matter whether you can make the fanciest gourmet meal if you lack the skills to do something as basic as poach an egg. Once you acquire those basic skills, your culinary repertoire is limited only by your imagination. The Complete Pépin is an entire cooking course on DVD that features dozens of techniques that Jacques has sharpened over his decades in the kitchen.
List Price: $29.99
Amazon Price: $24.99
Customer Review: Pepin = wonderful, moving about the DVD = bad
I really expected a more user-friendly way of navigating around in this dvd-it's difficult to get from A to B - and frustrating. Why does PBS make this simple process so difficult? This does not mean, however, that Pepin is a problem. His videos are always instructive and easy to learn from if one can get to the desired topic. He inspires one to study the culinary arts and is the most charming fellow with a sharp knife you'd ever want to meet. I have only a few regrets: Aside from the navigational problems encountered in getting around in this dvd, I wish the instructional portions had been longer and more involved. I wanted to see Pepin preparing more of his recipes. He has a light touch, moving effortlessly through a recipe as he demonstrates techniques. He reminds me of a surgeon.
Customer Review: Not really awful
If you are a PB watcher you've seen all this stuff. I find the formatting cumbersome. If you haven't seen the shows on PBS there is a lot to learn here.

Julia Child - The French Chef

Cooking legend and cultural icon Julia Child, along with her pioneering public television series, The French Chef, introduced French cuisine to American kitchens. In her passionate and sometimes breathless way, Julia forever changed the way we cook, eat, and think about food.

Entertaining, fun, and real in a way that influenced every television cooking program that followed, The French Chef embraced Julia's passion for food and teaching and reflected her joie de vivre: "If I can do it, you can do it…and here's how to do it!"

Now chefs of all ages and abilities can share Julia's love of fine French food and learn to cook some of her most-loved dishes with this special collection of 18 episodes from her original 1960s series, The French Chef. In her signature style and with bloopers intact, Julia demonstrates such classic recipes as boeuf bourguignon from her debut show, salade Nicoise, bouillabaisse a la Marseillaise, mousseline au chocolat, and many more delicious dishes.

Customer Review: Julia Child is great!
Julia Child is a character. I grew up watching her, so it is nice to reminisce with her craziness. This set includes some black and white and shows in color. Also, there are snippets of her in France. This has been passed around my family, so we all enjoy it. Bon apetite!
Customer Review: The great Julia Childs
What can one say? She was the Queen of cooking shows, and I grew up watching her on television as her show was unusual for the time. I learned to cook from her, and am greatful that her series has been preserved on DVD. Highly recommended as all of her recipes were thoroughly tested by her before even making it into her landmark cookbook "The French Chef" or her television series. She was meticulous in her testing, and having tried a number of her recipes, I can say that they are magnificent.

The French Chef With Julia Child 2

Prepare to enjoy eighteen of Julia Child's kitchen classics in a sumptuous second collection from her pioneering cooking show, The French Chef.

The French Chef was a cooking series unlike anything yet seen on TV. Warm and exuberant, Julia was a natural television star, whether scooping up a spilled potato pancake or coaxing a reluctant soufflé, Julia was not afraid of making mistakes. Soon a nation fed on Shake n' Bake and Tang would be experimenting with quiche Lorraine and boeuf bourguignon and cooking would become a national pastime.

This special collection presents 18 episodes from her groundbreaking series. In her signature style and with bloopers intact, Julia demonstrates such classic recipes as crêpes suzette, omelette gratinée, pâté de campagne, bûche de Noël and many more.

Customer Review: Not Just Nostalgia — Useful
This is a culinary time capsule. I was one year old when The French Chef debuted on TV, and yet tonight I made the creamed spinach featured in the series, and not only was it simple, economical, and DELICIOUS (truly, like something I might have had in a restaurant), but it also used just a tiny bit of butter and a tiny amount of cream, and the rest was stuff you'd have on hand (plus the spinach). This is an EXCELLENT way to be cooking (perfectly Atkins even). I topped it off with two poached eggs, just as Julia suggested, and that was dinner. So many recipes today require lots of ingredients and you end up using only a portion of what you have to buy (usually only to find the recipe wasn't well written, could have been improved, and wasn't all that worthwhile). This is truly real-world and economical cooking, and even better than that, what you learn cooking one thing (in which you've learned a simple little technique and dish to add to your repertoire) transfers to cooking other things, and before you know it you're a good cook and INSPIRED cook, not having to stick slavishly to someone else's recipe, but just cooking based on experience. There's excellent kitchen wisdom in this series to go along with the nostalgia, and I'm looking forward to trying more — tomorrow for lunch, in fact. It was also fun to hear Julia say things like that you could pick up a French omelette pan for $2.50 or so when the particular episode was made, and to correct herself to say "brown" a dish after saying "gratinee" and thinking (at the time) no Americans would know what she was talking about — same thing with …

Two Fat Ladies, Vol. 3 (Lunch, Cocktail Party, Afternoon Tea) and Vol. 4 (Picnic, Breakfast, Dinner)

Vegetarians and the faint of heart, beware! But for everyone else, the Two Fat Ladies are back, and they are simply spectacular. In volumes 3 and 4 of their British television series (each tape contains three episodes), Jennifer Paterson and Clarissa Dickson Wright cook for a lunch, a cocktail party, an afternoon tea, a picnic, a breakfast, and a dinner. The two women travel (by motorcycle and sidecar) to a different location in each episode to cook a requested meal–usually laden with cream, butter, and meats (Jennifer notes of one tartine: "Delicious, despite its vegetarian overtones"). Yes, this is a cooking show, but with Jennifer and Clarissa's patter, it has the feel of a comedy. As they whip up Loin of Pork Stuffed with Mushrooms and a pot of Clam Chowder, the Two Fat Ladies sing the praises of bacon (Clarissa hints at a risqué past when she notes that bacon is a great hangover cure; not that she gets hangovers anymore. Other allusions to falling off barstools and beer for breakfast are dotted throughout). The meals look sumptuous–salmon soaked in wine and topped with orange rings, Brazilian bean fritters, fruit tartlets, vichyssoise, and so much more–and it's terrific fun following the women as they go sightseeing (a motorcycle rally, watching a male choir, on a quest for the perfect drink at the Brazilian embassy, at a brewery, picking strawberries). Jennifer is likely to break out in song or rhyme, and Clarissa tells interesting facts and gossip from her life. They chitchat about tips for picking up men, the fact that nutmeg is a hallucinogenic, the beauty of British military boys, how you can't get crackling in Scotland or France. So, be prepared to learn how to core a kidney (and who knew kidneys needed coring?), make cracker crumbs, and laugh along at the antics of these two rather large women. The Two Fat Ladies are destined to become a cooking classic. –Jenny Brown

I bought the set of videos not knowing exactly what to expect, I owned their cookbooks and had seen them on various television shows. Customer Review: Relive Colonial Christmas Past!
Jeff Smith is such a delightful cook! His history lesson on Colonial Christmas is very interesting and his interactions with the children that are there to help him cook are very funny! The food is fascinating and the setting is beautiful! All of the recipes he prepares are from the early 1700's and afterwards I myself tried the candied orange peel recipe (which was quite good!). This would make a great Christmas gift for you or your friends!

Customer Review: best tailgate party grill
Got this for my husband for Pat's game tailgating and he impressed all his friends with the new "toy". Even purchased the griddle and carry case for it. a must have for football games.
Customer Review: I cook w/ top-down
I always do steaks with the top down… heat it up for about 10 mins. at a little over half heat…steaks on for 5 mins per side…done. I did however goof my left side grate - aluminum - because I left it on too high a heat - 3/4 - for about 10 mins while preheating….it kinda swooned into a bowl shape. I'm ordering the cast-iron grates today. I really like this product.

Coleman RoadTrip Wheeled Carry Case

Cart your Coleman RoadTrip Grill around in the wheeled carry case. If you're heading to a beach or busy park where you need to park far away, the Wheeled Carry Case makes towing your grill around a snap. Built-in straps secure the RoadTrip Grill in the bag so it doesn't bounce around in the bag or in your car. Coleman built the RoadTrip Grill for Case with handles on both sides for easy two-person carrying over uneven ground.
Price: $49.95
Customer Review: Brion
Nice Product! The Wheeled Case works like you expect it should. 1) The Nylon material is thick and should last. 2) The case uses the large zippers that you would find in a quality piece of luggage. 3) The internal pouches work like they should to hold two grill grates. 4) There is an outer net pouch that you can store quite a few items — plates, salt, pepper, etc. 5) There is plenty of room inside the bag to store your utinsils and even a roll of aluminum foil so you can line the grill for easy cleanup. 6) There are even nice velcro straps to secure the grill grates and the BBQ unit itself. Nice! One improvement could be if Coleman used a nice plastic or reinforced handles. The two handles (one on each side for two person pick up) are definitely sufficient. But using nice plastic or some type of reinforced material would make the handles more comfortable and give the handles more or a sense of higher quality. But this comment is being overly picky. The bag is a great buy. You will love it if you own the Road Trip Grill.
Customer Review: Awesome accessory
Excellent carry case. It is made of sturdy material. The wheels add to the practicality of the case. The pockets inside the case provide storage for griddles, grill, stove grate. We are very satisfied with this product

Babette's Feast

Artistic, sensual and sacred passions unite in Babette's Feast. Onthe desolate coast of Denmark live Martina and Philippa, the beautiful daughters of a devout clergyman who preaches salvation through self-denial. Both girls sacrifice youthful passion to faith and duty, and even many years after their father's death, they keep his austere teachings alive among thetownspeople. But with the arrival of Babette, a mysterious refugee from France's civil war, life for the sisters and their tiny hamlet begins to change. Soon, Babette has convinced them to try something truly outrageousa gourmet French meal! Her feast, of course, scandalizes the local elders. Customer Review: A great movie of our time!
This movie has a great many devoted fans, who view it regularly together in groups. I'm one of them. I'm a little behind, actually. The story depicts a pair of puritannical Danish spinsters and a Parisienne master chef, who adopt each other, their gentle and usually respectful attempts to understand each other's points of view. The implied criticism of puritanism seems to be the central theme of the story, but I think the movie transcends the limited aims of the original novel. I believe the author of this story is the gentleman whose story is presented in Out of Africa. Perhaps it is his sardonic wit that provides the backbone for the humor in the movie, but the movie's genius simply defies analysis. You mileage will definitely vary, since the movie appeals to the experience of the viewer; those brought up in a strongly religious protestant home will probably appreciate the details a lot more. But I will take a risk, and recommend it without reservation to everyone. Arch
Customer Review: The Evil Power of a French Dinner (Who Can Resist?)
This is an elegant film which tells a story filled with symbolism and meaning. The cinematography is outstanding. It is a highly focused story where dialogue is minimal but used to maximum effect. It is about committment, family loyalty, devotion to religion, love, charity, and worldly temptations. The film is based on a short book by Isak Dinesen titled "Anecdotes of Destiny". Most interesting is how much of the story and filming occurs within the small village in Denmark. Also, much of the story occurs when the main characters are elderly …It is great story of faith and giving. Taking place in the 19th century, Martina and Phillipa are the beautiful daughters of a Lutheran pastor in a fishing village in northern Denmark. Their father started a religious sect which is very austere and pious. It emphasizes the "world to come" and preaches controlling …

Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, Granular, Individual Packets, 700-Count Box

List Price: $16.99
Amazon Price: $17.00
Customer Review: all right by me !!!
Splenda is a very good sweetener for beverages like coffee or iced tea. It has no calories and no carbohydrates either. It uses sucralose as a sugar substitute. I usually prefer Sweet And Low for my sweetener; but when I can't get my hands on that Splenda is a fairly good substitute. Splenda is my second choice (along with Equal) because it's not quite as sweet as Sweet And Low. On the other hand, if you prefer a non-sugar sweetener that's not too sweet or potent, then Splenda would be a good choice for you. Splenda is a powdery white substance. Just open the individual packet or packets and pour it in to your beverage. It is probably quite good for certain recipes as well. They say you may prefer to use the granular form of Splenda for recipes but if you don't have that handy these packets will do. Keep the individual packets in the box they come in or you can put them into any container you wish. Overall, Splenda is a good choice for a sweetener substitute for sugar. It isn't quite as potent as Sweet And Low; that can be a good or bad thing depending on how sweet you like your beverages or recipes. I myself prefer the taste of Sweet And Low. Of course, you can always add a little more Splenda to make the drink or recipe a bit sweeter. Four stars.
Customer Review: Splenda
As a Type II Diabetic I rely on Splenda to calm my sweet tooth. It is a great tasting sugar substitute in all my recipies for foods & drinks. And it is the only very popular sugar substitute that has no harmful effects & it is offered at amazon.com at a very good price I love that!

Presto 09993 MyPod replacement coffee filters

Mmm, these pods sure make the coffee experience more enjoyable. Open a pack and enjoy the ride!
List Price: $2.50
Amazon Price: $2.50
Customer Review: Does not work with Senseo! Made a mess!
I bought these to try with my senseo but I was left with messy coffee grounds stuck in my machine and light brown water in my cup. These are not pods but just paper circle filters the same size or smaller than Senseo pods. There is no pocket to put coffee in. I would have given it one star but I used it for off label use so who knows? It might work with the Presto machine although I don't really see how since there is no pocket to place the coffee in.
Customer Review: Still the best cup of coffee!
These filters and the Senseo still make the best cup of coffee around. We have much more expensive machines at work, but I think what I make at home is better.

McCann's Irish Oatmeal, Quick Cooking, 16-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Price: $25.20
Customer Review: The taste of steel cut oats without the time
I'm a big fan of steel cut oats, but don't always have the time to cook them. This is the next best thing. It has the taste of steel cut, but it only takes a fraction of the time to cook. Add a dash of vanilla, dried fruit and nuts, and you've got a healthy meal made in heaven.
Customer Review: I'm hooked
After a lifetime of using Quaker oatmeal, I thought I'd give this a try. Not to knock the old American standby, but this is SO much better. Great taste and texture…it seems more restaurant quality. Although I always eat breakfast, my appetite isn't that big in the morning so I use 1/3 cup of the oatmeal and 1/3 cup of water combined with 1/3 cup of milk. Using a little milk instead of all water adds to the flavor and texture. I cook mine on the stove top and it's just as fast as the microwave…it starts boiling within a minute then I stir it until it thickens–usually just another minute. I usually add some sliced strawberries and a tiny bit of brown sugar and some stevia (if you haven't tried stevia in place of sugar, you should!). I often add some ground flaxseed too. I bought the steel cut oats (in the metal tin) that cook for half an hour. That's just not realistic for me to use in the morning. Sure, they taste great, but it's really a totally different taste and texture and I don't have that time in the morning.

I found this so difficult to use that I gave up. Having wasted my money, I am now looking for another product.
Customer Review: Great Program!
Great program! Finally got all those unorganized jiblets of paper and magazine and newspaper clippings organized and easily accessible. A liberating experience! Now, I can go to one place and find exactly the recipe I'm looking for. Still exploring all the possibilities… The only problem is in the updates. After, the first fiasco (where I had to go to my backup - luckily I'd read the reviews of others who'd had difficulty), I've been afraid to try it again.
